God promised that "seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter... shall not cease" (Genesis 8:22). "To every thing there is a season" (Ecclesiastes 3:1). Paul writes, "in due season we shall reap, if we faint not" (Galatians 6:9), and as the leaves fall, "the word of our God shall stand for ever" (Isaiah 40:8).
Falling leaves, cooler mornings, and harvest fields have long pointed believers to God's faithfulness through changing seasons. These twelve King James passages are for autumn: the God who sets the seasons, the lessons of sowing and reaping, and the Word that outlasts every fading leaf. This is a seasonal reflection page, not a gratitude list; for that, see Thanksgiving verses and our free Thanksgiving printable.
God of the changing seasons
1. Genesis 8:22
"While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease."
After the flood, God promised that the rhythm of the year would not cease. Every autumn is a fresh reminder that He keeps His word.
2. Ecclesiastes 3:1
"To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:"
Fall is a season of letting go. Solomon reminds us that every season, planting and harvesting, holding and releasing, has its time under God.
3. Psalms 104:19
"He appointed the moon for seasons: the sun knoweth his going down."
God appointed the moon for seasons and the sun its setting. Shorter autumn days are part of His design, not random drift.
4. Daniel 2:21
"And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:"
He changes the times and the seasons. Whatever is changing in your life this fall, it changes under His hand.
Sowing and reaping
5. Psalms 126:5-6
"They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him."
Seed sown in tears comes back as sheaves of joy. Harvest time invites us to remember that hard sowing seasons are not wasted.
6. Galatians 6:9
"And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not."
Due season is coming. Do not quit sowing good just before the harvest.
7. Matthew 9:37-38
"Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest."
Jesus looked at people as a harvest field: plenteous, but with few labourers. Fall is a good time to pray for the Lord of the harvest to send workers.
8. James 5:7
"Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain."
Farmers wait patiently for the early and latter rain. Autumn teaches the patience of a harvest you cannot hurry.
Harvest, change, and what lasts
9. Jeremiah 5:24
"Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in his season: he reserveth unto us the appointed weeks of the harvest."
The LORD gives rain in its season and reserves the appointed weeks of harvest. The harvest is a gift to receive with reverence.
10. Psalms 67:6
"Then shall the earth yield her increase; and God, even our own God, shall bless us."
When the earth yields her increase, it is God who blesses. A simple harvest prayer for families, farms, and churches.
11. Psalms 74:17
"Thou hast set all the borders of the earth: thou hast made summer and winter."
He made summer and winter. Autumn, the bridge between them, is His too.
12. Isaiah 40:8
"The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever."
Grass withers, flowers fade, and leaves fall, but God's Word stands forever. Let every falling leaf point you to what lasts.
A short prayer
Lord of the harvest, thank You for the beauty of this season and for keeping Your promise of seedtime and harvest. As the leaves fall, help me let go of what is passing and hold fast to Your Word, which stands forever. Bring a harvest from what I have sown in tears, and make me a faithful labourer in Your field. In Jesus' name, amen.

Frequently asked questions
What does the Bible say about fall or autumn?
The King James Version does not use the word "autumn," but it speaks often of seasons and harvest: God's promise of "seedtime and harvest" (Genesis 8:22), a time for everything (Ecclesiastes 3:1), and reaping in due season (Galatians 6:9).
What is a good Bible verse for the fall season?
Ecclesiastes 3:1, Genesis 8:22 and Isaiah 40:8 are favorites for autumn signs, cards, and church bulletins.
What does "seedtime and harvest" mean?
In Genesis 8:22 God promised Noah that the cycle of planting and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, and day and night would continue as long as the earth remains. It is a promise of His faithful care.
How can I reflect spiritually in the fall?
Use the season's changes as prompts: thank God for the harvest, release what is passing, pray for workers in His harvest (Matthew 9:38), and anchor yourself in the Word that does not fade.
