Bible Verses About Being Blessed: 12 KJV Scriptures on God's Blessing

King James Version · Updated October 2026

Quick answer

"Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD" (Jeremiah 17:7). Jesus opened the Sermon on the Mount with blessing: "Blessed are the poor in spirit" (Matthew 5:3). "Blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it" (Luke 11:28). "Blessed is the man that endureth temptation" (James 1:12).

What does it mean to be blessed? In Scripture, blessedness is not first a hashtag or a bank balance; it is the happy favor of walking with God. These twelve King James passages describe the blessed life: trusting the LORD, living the Beatitudes, and receiving the blessing that comes with obedience and endurance. This page is about being blessed and walking in God's blessing; for speaking blessing over others (including the Aaronic blessing), see bible verses about blessing.

Who is blessed?

1. Matthew 5:3-6

"Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled."
Matthew 5:3-6 (KJV)

Jesus flips the world's scoreboard: poor in spirit, mourners, the meek, and those who hunger for righteousness are called blessed. Blessedness begins with need met by God, not self-sufficiency.

2. Matthew 5:7-10

"Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."
Matthew 5:7-10 (KJV)

The merciful, the pure in heart, peacemakers, and the persecuted for righteousness' sake are blessed. Walking in blessing often looks like costly love, not comfort alone.

3. Jeremiah 17:7-8

"Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit."
Jeremiah 17:7-8 (KJV)

Blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD: like a tree by the waters, unafraid of heat or drought. Trust is the root of a blessed life.

4. Psalms 32:1-2

"Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man unto whom the LORD imputeth not iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile."
Psalms 32:1-2 (KJV)

Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven. The deepest blessing is a clean slate before God, not a full calendar of good fortune.

Blessed who hear and trust

5. Luke 11:28

"But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it."
Luke 11:28 (KJV)

Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it. Hearing and obeying Scripture is a surer blessing than any miracle spectacle.

6. Psalms 84:4-5

"Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah. Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them."
Psalms 84:4-5 (KJV)

Blessed are they that dwell in thy house; blessed is the man whose strength is in thee. Nearness to God and strength drawn from Him mark the blessed path.

7. Psalms 112:1

"Praise ye the LORD. Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments."
Psalms 112:1 (KJV)

Blessed is the man that feareth the LORD, that delighteth greatly in his commandments. Reverent joy in God's ways is itself a blessing.

8. Galatians 3:9

"So then they which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham."
Galatians 3:9 (KJV)

They which be of faith are blessed with faithful Abraham. Blessing runs along the line of faith, not pedigree or performance.

Blessed endurance and favor

9. James 1:12

"Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him."
James 1:12 (KJV)

Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life. Endurance under trial is not a curse; James calls it blessed.

10. Romans 4:7-8

"Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin."
Romans 4:7-8 (KJV)

Paul quotes David: blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sin is covered. Gospel blessing is justification by faith.

11. Psalms 65:4

"Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee, that he may dwell in thy courts: we shall be satisfied with the goodness of thy house, even of thy holy temple."
Psalms 65:4 (KJV)

Blessed is the man whom thou choosest, and causest to approach unto thee. Being drawn near to God is the privilege at the center of blessing.

12. Malachi 3:10

"Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it."
Malachi 3:10 (KJV)

Bring ye all the tithes... and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts. God invites His people to trust Him with open hands and watch Him open the windows of heaven; blessing and faithfulness walk together.

A short prayer

Lord, thank You that true blessing is found in trusting You, hearing Your Word, and walking in Your ways. Forgive my sins, root me like a tree by the water, and teach me to delight in Your commandments. Make me poor in spirit and rich toward You. In Jesus' name, amen.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Bible say about being blessed?

Blessedness belongs to those who trust the LORD (Jeremiah 17:7), hear and keep His Word (Luke 11:28), walk in the Beatitudes (Matthew 5:3-10), and receive forgiveness by faith (Psalm 32:1-2; Romans 4:7-8).

Is being blessed the same as being rich?

Not necessarily. Jesus calls the poor in spirit and the persecuted blessed. Material provision can be a gift, but Scripture's deepest blessings are forgiveness, nearness to God, and enduring faith.

What are the Beatitudes?

Matthew 5:3-12, where Jesus pronounces blessing on the humble, the mourning, the meek, those hungry for righteousness, the merciful, the pure in heart, peacemakers, and the persecuted.

How is this different from the blessing page?

That page covers blessing as gift and words to bless others (including Numbers 6:24-26). This page focuses on what it means to be blessed and to walk in God's blessing day by day.
