Bible Verses About God Providing: 12 KJV Jehovah Jireh Scriptures for Every Need

King James Version · Updated October 2026

Quick answer

The Bible names God Jehovah-jireh, the LORD will provide, after Abraham said, "God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering" (Genesis 22:8). Jesus taught, "your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things" (Luke 12:30), and Paul asks, "He that spared not his own Son... how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?" (Romans 8:32).

From manna in the wilderness to daily bread, the Bible is full of stories of God providing for His people. Jehovah-jireh, the name Abraham gave the mountain where God provided a ram, is also the title of a much-loved worship song. These twelve King James verses explain the name, retell the stories of God's provision, and help you trust Him for what you need today. They fit Thanksgiving (November 26, 2026) and any season of tight money. For managing money, see finances; for thankful prayers, see Thanksgiving.

Jehovah-jireh: the LORD will provide

1. Genesis 22:8

"And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together."
Genesis 22:8 (KJV)

Isaac asked where the lamb was, and Abraham answered in faith: God will provide Himself a lamb. Christians see this fulfilled in Jesus, the Lamb of God (John 1:29). See lion and lamb.

2. Genesis 22:14

"And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the LORD it shall be seen."
Genesis 22:14 (KJV)

After God provided a ram caught in a thicket, Abraham named the place Jehovah-jireh. The name means the LORD will see to it, or the LORD will provide. God sees the need before we do.

3. Romans 8:32

"He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?"
Romans 8:32 (KJV)

This is the strongest argument in Scripture for God's provision. If God gave His own Son for us, He will not hold back what we truly need. The greatest gift guarantees the smaller ones.

4. Luke 12:30

"For all these things do the nations of the world seek after: and your Father knoweth that ye have need of these things."
Luke 12:30 (KJV)

Jesus told His followers not to be anxious about food and clothing, because the Father already knows the need. The next verse says to seek His kingdom first (Luke 12:31).

Stories of God's provision

5. Exodus 16:4

"Then said the LORD unto Moses, Behold, I will rain bread from heaven for you; and the people shall go out and gather a certain rate every day, that I may prove them, whether they will walk in my law, or no."
Exodus 16:4 (KJV)

God rained bread from heaven every morning, but only enough for each day. Manna taught Israel to trust God daily instead of hoarding. Jesus later called Himself the bread of life (John 6:35).

6. Deuteronomy 2:7

"For the LORD thy God hath blessed thee in all the works of thy hand: he knoweth thy walking through this great wilderness: these forty years the LORD thy God hath been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing."
Deuteronomy 2:7 (KJV)

After forty years in the wilderness Moses could say, thou hast lacked nothing. Looking back over God's provision builds faith for the road ahead.

7. 1 Kings 17:6

"And the ravens brought him bread and flesh in the morning, and bread and flesh in the evening; and he drank of the brook."
1 Kings 17:6 (KJV)

During a drought God fed Elijah through ravens, morning and evening, by the brook Cherith. His provision can come from the most unexpected places.

8. 1 Kings 17:16

"And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Elijah."
1 Kings 17:16 (KJV)

A widow shared her last meal with Elijah, and her flour and oil did not run out until the rain returned. God often provides through generous people, and for them.

Trusting Him for what you need today

9. Psalms 37:25

"I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread."
Psalms 37:25 (KJV)

David looked back over a long life and said he had not seen the righteous forsaken. It is an old man's testimony, not a promise that believers never struggle, and it sits in a psalm that begins its call with trust in the LORD, and do good (Psalm 37:3).

10. Luke 12:24

"Consider the ravens: for they neither sow nor reap; which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feedeth them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?"
Luke 12:24 (KJV)

Ravens do not plant or store food, yet God feeds them. Jesus uses the birds to show how much more the Father cares for His children. See animals.

11. Psalms 34:9

"O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for there is no want to them that fear him."
Psalms 34:9 (KJV)

Those who fear the LORD shall lack nothing they truly need. David wrote Psalm 34 while running for his life, so it comes from hard experience, not comfort.

12. Matthew 7:11

"If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?"
Matthew 7:11 (KJV)

If imperfect parents know how to give good gifts, how much more our Father in heaven. Ask Him freely for what you need. See God answering prayers.

A short prayer

Jehovah-jireh, You are the God who provides. Thank You for daily bread, for every bill paid and every meal shared, and above all for Jesus. When I am anxious about tomorrow, remind me that You know what I need. Make me generous with what You give, so I can help provide for others. Amen.

Frequently asked questions

What does Jehovah Jireh mean?

Jehovah-jireh is the name Abraham gave Mount Moriah in Genesis 22:14. It is usually translated the LORD will provide or the LORD will see. God saw the need and provided a ram in place of Isaac, a picture of the substitute He would later provide in Jesus.

What Bible verse says God will provide for my needs?

The best known is "But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:19). Matthew 6:33, Luke 12:30 and Psalm 34:9 make the same promise. They speak of needs, not every want, and they are given to people who seek God first.

How do I trust God to provide when money is tight?

Pray specifically, as Jesus taught: "Give us this day our daily bread" (Matthew 6:11). Look back at how God has provided before, as Moses did (Deuteronomy 2:7). Make a simple budget, ask your church for help, and accept help from others as one of the ways God provides. See money.

Does God provide money if I give or pray enough?

God's provision is a gift, not a reward we earn or a formula we can work. Scripture promises daily needs and His presence, and it calls us to contentment: "having food and raiment let us be therewith content" (1 Timothy 6:8). Be cautious of teaching that promises wealth in return for gifts. See offering for giving with a willing heart.
