Bible Verses About Integrity: 12 KJV Scriptures on Walking Uprightly

King James Version · Updated October 2026

Quick answer

"He that walketh uprightly walketh surely" (Proverbs 10:9), and "The integrity of the upright shall guide them" (Proverbs 11:3). Job "holdeth fast his integrity" through great loss (Job 2:3), Daniel's rivals could find "none occasion nor fault" in him (Daniel 6:4), and David led Israel "according to the integrity of his heart" (Psalm 78:72).

Integrity means being whole: the same person in private as in public, at home as at work, when it costs as when it is easy. The Hebrew words behind integrity speak of completeness and uprightness. These twelve King James verses describe the blessing of an upright walk, people who kept their integrity under pressure, and integrity in work and leadership. They fit a new job, a team devotion, a graduation card or a note to your children. For honest speech, see lying and truth.

Walk in integrity

1. Proverbs 10:9

"He that walketh uprightly walketh surely: but he that perverteth his ways shall be known."
Proverbs 10:9 (KJV)

A person of integrity does not have to remember which story they told to whom. There is security in one honest life, while crooked ways are eventually exposed.

2. Proverbs 11:3

"The integrity of the upright shall guide them: but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them."
Proverbs 11:3 (KJV)

Integrity works like an inner compass. When a decision is unclear, asking what an honest, whole-hearted person would do often settles it.

3. Psalms 26:1

"Judge me, O LORD; for I have walked in mine integrity: I have trusted also in the LORD; therefore I shall not slide."
Psalms 26:1 (KJV)

David claims sincerity, not sinlessness. Integrity and trust go together: we walk uprightly because we rely on God, not on shortcuts.

4. Psalms 25:21

"Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on thee."
Psalms 25:21 (KJV)

David saw integrity as protection. Waiting on God instead of grabbing what we want keeps us from compromises we would later regret.

Integrity under pressure

5. Job 2:3

"And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause."
Job 2:3 (KJV)

God Himself praised Job for holding fast his integrity after losing his wealth and children. Integrity is tested most when doing right brings no reward.

6. Job 27:5

"God forbid that I should justify you: till I die I will not remove mine integrity from me."
Job 27:5 (KJV)

Pressed by friends to confess sins he had not committed, Job refused. Integrity can mean declining a false confession just to end a conflict, and telling the truth about yourself, good and bad.

7. Daniel 6:4

"Then the presidents and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither was there any error or fault found in him."
Daniel 6:4 (KJV)

Daniel's rivals searched his work for corruption and found nothing, so they attacked his prayer life instead. Integrity at work is a quiet witness. See our page on work.

8. Proverbs 19:1

"Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool."
Proverbs 19:1 (KJV)

Proverbs says integrity is worth more than wealth or status, a good verse for students and young workers facing pressure to cut corners.

Integrity at work and in leadership

9. Psalms 78:72

"So he fed them according to the integrity of his heart; and guided them by the skilfulness of his hands."
Psalms 78:72 (KJV)

Good leadership needs both character and competence, integrity of heart and skilfulness of hands. Neither can make up for the absence of the other. See leadership.

10. 2 Corinthians 8:21

"Providing for honest things, not only in the sight of the Lord, but also in the sight of men."
2 Corinthians 8:21 (KJV)

Paul handled a large gift for the poor in Jerusalem openly. Integrity includes transparency, especially with money and other people's trust.

11. 1 Chronicles 29:17

"I know also, my God, that thou triest the heart, and hast pleasure in uprightness. As for me, in the uprightness of mine heart I have willingly offered all these things: and now have I seen with joy thy people, which are present here, to offer willingly unto thee."
1 Chronicles 29:17 (KJV)

As the people gave willingly for the temple, David prayed to the God who tries the heart. God sees motives, not just actions: integrity is doing right for the right reason.

12. Psalms 15:1-2

"LORD, who shall abide in thy tabernacle? who shall dwell in thy holy hill? He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart."
Psalms 15:1-2 (KJV)

Who may dwell with God? The one who speaketh the truth in his heart. Integrity starts inside, then shows in our walk and our work.

A short prayer

Lord, You try the heart and delight in uprightness. Make me whole, the same person in private and in public. Guard me from shortcuts, give me courage to tell the truth when it costs me, and let my work and leadership reflect Your faithfulness. Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait on You. Amen.

Frequently asked questions

What is integrity according to the Bible?

Biblical integrity is wholeness of character: living consistently by God's ways, with no gap between what we say and what we do. Job is the Bible's great example, "a perfect and an upright man" (Job 1:8) who "holdeth fast his integrity" (Job 2:3) through suffering.

Who in the Bible had integrity?

Job, Joseph, who refused Potiphar's wife (Genesis 39:9), Samuel (1 Samuel 12:3-4), Daniel (Daniel 6:4) and Nehemiah, who would not profit from his post as governor (Nehemiah 5:14-15), all stand out. David is remembered for integrity of heart (1 Kings 9:4), though he also sinned and repented, which shows integrity includes honest confession.

Why is integrity important for a Christian?

Integrity honors God, protects us and others, and makes our witness believable. Paul urged Titus to be "a pattern of good works" (Titus 2:7). People may not read the Bible, but they read our lives, and small daily honesty builds the trust that big moments require.

Is integrity the same as honesty?

Honesty is part of integrity, but integrity is bigger. Honesty is telling the truth; integrity is being true, consistent in words, actions and motives. For verses on honest speech, see our pages on lying and the tongue.
