Bible Verses About the Future: 12 KJV Scriptures for Tomorrow and the Years Ahead

King James Version · Updated October 2026

Quick answer

God holds your future: "surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off" (Proverbs 23:18), and "there is hope in thine end, saith the LORD" (Jeremiah 31:17). Jesus says, "Take therefore no thought for the morrow" (Matthew 6:34). And "Eye hath not seen... the things which God hath prepared for them that love him" (1 Corinthians 2:9).

The future can feel exciting or frightening: a new year, a graduation, a move, a diagnosis, aging parents, children growing up. Scripture does not give us a map of every tomorrow, but it tells us who holds it. These twelve King James verses gather God's promise of a good end, His guidance one day at a time, and the hope of a future that cannot fade. For the famous plans verse, see God's plan; if worry about tomorrow keeps you awake, see anxiety.

God holds your future

1. Proverbs 23:18

"For surely there is an end; and thine expectation shall not be cut off."
Proverbs 23:18 (KJV)

The verse before says not to envy sinners but to live in the fear of God all day. Your hope is not wasted. Expectation here means hope, and God promises it will not be cut off.

2. Jeremiah 31:17

"And there is hope in thine end, saith the LORD, that thy children shall come again to their own border."
Jeremiah 31:17 (KJV)

Spoken to Rachel weeping for her children (Jeremiah 31:15), this promise gave hope to grieving parents in exile. It is a gentle verse to pray for children who have wandered.

3. Psalms 37:37

"Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace."
Psalms 37:37 (KJV)

Psalm 37 contrasts the short-lived success of the wicked with the steady path of the upright. Whatever happens along the way, the end of the one who walks with God is peace.

4. Proverbs 24:14

"So shall the knowledge of wisdom be unto thy soul: when thou hast found it, then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off."
Proverbs 24:14 (KJV)

Wisdom is like honey (Proverbs 24:13): sweet now and rewarding later. Choices made with God's wisdom today shape a future with hope.

One day at a time

5. Matthew 6:34

"Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof."
Matthew 6:34 (KJV)

Jesus does not say tomorrow will be easy. He says each day has enough trouble of its own, so carry today's load and trust the Father with tomorrow's.

6. Psalms 48:14

"For this God is our God for ever and ever: he will be our guide even unto death."
Psalms 48:14 (KJV)

The God who guided His people in the past will guide them for ever, even unto death. A guide does not just hand you a map; He walks the road with you.

7. Psalms 73:24

"Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory."
Psalms 73:24 (KJV)

Asaph nearly lost faith watching the wicked prosper, until he went into God's sanctuary. God guides His people now with counsel and afterward receives them to glory.

8. Isaiah 42:16

"And I will bring the blind by a way that they knew not; I will lead them in paths that they have not known: I will make darkness light before them, and crooked things straight. These things will I do unto them, and not forsake them."
Isaiah 42:16 (KJV)

God leads the blind by paths they have not known. When the road ahead is unfamiliar, His promise is not to show you everything but never to forsake you.

A future that cannot fade

9. Hebrews 13:14

"For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come."
Hebrews 13:14 (KJV)

No city on earth lasts forever. Christians hold their plans loosely because their true home is still ahead, and that frees them to live generously now.

10. 1 Corinthians 2:9

"But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him."
1 Corinthians 2:9 (KJV)

Paul draws on Isaiah 64:4. What God has prepared is beyond anything we can picture, and the next verse says He reveals it to us by His Spirit.

11. 1 Peter 1:4

"To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,"
1 Peter 1:4 (KJV)

Every earthly inheritance can be lost, spoiled or spent. The inheritance God keeps for His people is incorruptible, undefiled and unfading.

12. 1 John 3:2

"Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is."
1 John 3:2 (KJV)

We do not know every detail of the future, but we know Jesus. When He appears, we shall be like Him. That is the brightest future of all.

A short prayer

Father, my tomorrows are in Your hands. When I worry about the year ahead, teach me to live one day at a time, trusting Your guidance. Lead me on paths I do not know, keep me from envy and fear, and fix my hope on the future You have prepared in Christ. Amen.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Bible say about worrying about the future?

Jesus says not to be anxious about tomorrow, because the Father knows what you need (Matthew 6:32-34). Paul adds a practice: pray about everything with thanksgiving (Philippians 4:6). Worry is a normal feeling, but you do not have to carry tomorrow alone. See worrying.

Is Jeremiah 29:11 about my future?

Jeremiah 29:11 was first spoken to Jewish exiles in Babylon, promising a return after seventy years (Jeremiah 29:10). It shows God's character: His thoughts toward His people are peace. Christians rightly take comfort that God's plans for them are good, though not always quick or easy. See God's plan.

Does the Bible say to plan for the future?

Yes, with humility. Proverbs praises the ant that prepares in summer (Proverbs 6:6-8), and Jesus speaks of counting the cost before building (Luke 14:28). James warns against boasting about tomorrow and teaches us to say, "If the Lord will" (James 4:15). Plan, pray and hold plans loosely.

What Bible verse is good for a graduate or a new chapter?

Proverbs 23:18 and Isaiah 42:16 suit anyone stepping into the unknown. Psalm 48:14 is a strong promise for a long journey, and 1 Corinthians 2:9 reminds graduates that God's best is still ahead. See also new beginnings.
